The ebook Learning to Solve Math World
Problems in the Primary Grades
is a description of a method that Linda has used for many years.
Students work on individual blackboards to draw pictures or diagrams to
help them solve the "problem of the day." They share and discuss their
work and learn that there are many ways to approach the problem.
After a group lesson she gives them work sheets so that they
can
complete a problem related to the one they worked on together. The book
contains over 30 word problems on separate specially-designed forms,
ready to photocopy. Also included is a blank form for
teachers
who wish to use their own problems or to ask students to write problems
of their own.
Her students enjoy
these lessons, and they really help them to learn to think logically.
